White Sox OF Andrew Benintendi returns, smells like pinch hitter

SEATTLE — The Chicago White Sox activated gardener andres benintendi off the 10-day injured list before Wednesday night’s game against the Seattle Mariners.

Benintendi, who had been sidelined by left Achilles tendonitis, entered the game as a pinch-hitter in the 10th inning with two outs and the lead runner on third base, but struck out to end the threat. He remained in the game to play left field in the bottom half of the inning. The Mariners won 2-1.

Benintendi, 29, made two rehab appearances with the organization’s Arizona Complex League affiliate.

He’s off to a rough start this year for last-place Chicago, hitting .194 with four home runs and 18 RBIs.

The White Sox also activated reliever Steven Wilson from the 15-day disabled list before their game in Seattle. novice gardener Duke Ellis was traded to Triple-A Charlotte, and the left-hander Tim Hill was designated for assignment.

Wilson had been on the disabled list since May 20 with a back strain. The right-hander made two rehab appearances with Charlotte, allowing two runs on four hits in 1⅔ inning.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
