Pistons nearing deal to name JB Bickerstaff next head coach: sources

He Detroit Pistons They are finalizing a deal with the former Cleveland Cavaliers Coach JB Bickerstaff will be their next head coach, just a week after Monty Williams fired a year after one of the largest contracts in NBA coaching historyTeam sources say The Atletico. The deal is for four seasons, the sources said.

Cleveland got less than 60 games of David Mitchell, Dario Garland and Evan Mobley and still ended up winning 48 games during the regular season and reached the second round of the NBA playoffs. The Cavaliers have made the postseason in two straight years under Bickerstaff and have won 44-plus games in each of the past three years.

Detroit hires Bickerstaff to replace Williams, who, after signing a lucrative contract, led the Pistons to a franchise-worst 14-68 record, which included a historic 28-game losing streak. He hired Trajan Langdon to be the franchise’s president of basketball operations. Since taking over earlier this month, Langdon has revamped Detroit’s front office, firing one coach and now hiring a new one.

For Detroit, the goal this offseason was to have complete synergy from the top down after such a disastrous season. According to team sources, Bickerstaff was at the top of Langdon’s list throughout the process as the Pistons president looked for someone with experience, leadership skills and the ability to mold young players into a cohesive team. Bickerstaff fit all of those criteria, according to team sources.

Former and current Pistons assistant Mavericks Assistant Sean Sweeney was the other finalist for the vacancy.
