I got this idea from Connor McDavid, the Conn Smythe Trophy, and an overactive brain.
McDavid, playing for the Edmonton Oilers who lost the Stanley Cup final, However, he did win the Conn Smythe Trophy.which has been awarded to the Most Valuable Player of the entire postseason since 1965.
That makes more sense now, with four playoff rounds, than it did six decades ago, when there were just two. The NFL, NBA and MLB have also expanded their playoffs, but the NHL is the only league to award the MVP for the entire postseason.
I think MLB, which now has four postseason rounds, should become the second sport to award an MVP for all playoffs. It’s Conn Smythe. But of course, you can’t call him that. So my idea would be to call it the Derek Jeter Trophy (more on that shortly).
