Louisville’s Ashton Gillotte Named Walter Camp First-Team All-American

University of Louisville defensive lineman Ashton Gillotte is expected to win Lots of preseason praise.

And another one arrived on Monday.

Gillotte was named to the Walter Camp Preseason All-America Team. He was one of four defensive linemen on the first team and one of 11 defensive players from across the country named to the first team by the Walter Camp Foundation.

Gillotte, a 2023 second-team All-America selection by several other outlets, is coming off a breakout season last fall. The Boca Raton, Florida, native earned first-team all-conference accolades and was runner-up for the league’s Defensive Player of the Year award. The 6-foot-3, 275-pounder was ninth nationally with 11.0 sacks and recorded 14.5 tackles for loss.

Gillotte led all defensive linemen last season with a career-high 45 tackles, while also setting new career highs with seven tackles against Virginia and 3.0 sacks against Boston College.

The fourth-year player enters his final campaign with 22.0 sacks and 30.5 tackles for loss.

Walter Camp is the oldest college football All-America team in the country. Walter Camp, “the father of American football,” first selected an All-America team in 1889.
