Sometimes having the best season of your career won’t clear your name from NHL trade rumors. And in some cases, that could make trade rumors even worse. That appears to be the case for Philadelphia Flyers forward Morgan Frost, who has once again been considered one of the NHL’s top trade targets.
NHL insider Frank Seravalli on Friday revealed a list of his top 25 trade targets on the market, led by the usual suspects like Mitchell Marner. Martin NecasLinus Ullmark, Jacob Markstrom, and others. Toward the bottom of Seravalli’s list were some younger, low-buy trade targets, including Frost, who ranked 17th.
Said Seravalli, “After a difficult year in which Frost remained a healthy scratch for a while, it sure ended well. Frost closed the campaign with 30 points in 44 games in calendar year 2024. One thing that doesn’t seem to be changing: John Tortorella as coach of the Flyers. While a certain rejection of Frost seemed to sit well with him in Tortorella’s books, it is not entirely clear whether they will ever see eye to eye.”
Also critical is the fact that Frost, who just turned 25, was benched for Tortorella for nearly two full periods of the Flyers’ final game of the season. Remember that the Flyers were facing the Washington Capitals in a “win or go home” Game 82, and playoff circumstances forced Tortorella to pull rookie goaltender Sam Ersson for an extra attacker in a tied game because a regulation victory was required.
