All the leaves have fallen for Jerry Jones, and yet the Dallas Cowboys owner has… Quarterback Dak Prescott’s contract has not yet been extendedSeveral Cowboys insiders believe a deal will be done, but unfortunately there’s no point in speculating on a timeline.
Given the lack of progress in negotiations, Prescott could sign before, during or after training camp. It also wouldn’t be a surprise if Prescott played out the 2024 season and re-signed with Dallas before free agency next March.
Meanwhile, Cowboys fans are right to wonder if the team has done enough to prepare Prescott for success. While CeeDee Lamb is a top-five receiver, Brandin Cooks is entering his age-31 season and hasn’t topped 1,000 receiving yards in three years.
Behind Lamb and Cooks, Dallas has a litany of receivers who haven’t proven themselves. While there are rumors about Jalen Tolbert, Jalen Brooks and rookie Ryan Flournoy, it’s fair to wonder what kind of impact they’ll have. It certainly wouldn’t hurt to add a more experienced wide receiver before training camp.
Good, Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report proposed a hypothetical trade that would see Prescott reunite with former Cowboy Cedrick Wilson.

After Disappointing time with the DolphinsWilson signed with the Saints as a free agent. He earned Two years and $5.8 million with $2.9 million guaranteedThat contract would suggest Wilson has a good chance of making the 53-man roster. However, it may not be that simple.
The Saints have a talented group of young receivers. In two seasons, 2022 first-round draft pick Chris Olave has hauled in 159 receptions for 2,165 yards and nine touchdowns. New Orleans also likes the potential of 25-year-old Rashid Shaheed and 2023 sixth-round pick AT Perry. They also selected Pittsburgh product Bub Means in the fifth round.
It’s not outside the realm of possibility that the Saints could deem Wilson expendable at the end of training camp.
After all, Wilson hasn’t been able to replicate the success of his 2021 season. In two seasons in Miami, he managed just 34 receptions for 432 yards and three touchdowns. Yes, the Dolphins acquired Tyreek Hill after Wilson signed in 2022, but his time in South Beach was a disappointment nonetheless.
Wilson has three years of experience catching passes from Prescott, culminating in a breakout season in 2021, when he caught 45 passes for 602 yards and six touchdowns as the No. 3 option behind Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb after Michael Gallup went down with an injury. If Dallas is interested, there is a path for Wilson to reprise the WR3 role this season.
Knox didn’t offer any terms, but it stands to reason that Wilson could be acquired for a Day 3 pick, likely in the sixth or seventh round. He wouldn’t be our first choice, but there would be little risk involved and his chemistry with Prescott would be a huge plus.
