Bryant hires Daly as assistant basketball coach

Bryant men’s basketball head coach Phil Martelli Jr. announced the addition of Ryan Daly to the coaching staff for the upcoming 2024-25 season.

Daly comes to Smithfield after spending the last two seasons at UAlbany.

“Ryan Daly is from a legendary Philadelphia basketball family,” Martelli said. “He was a tireless worker as a player and continued that way in his young career as a coach. Ryan really eats, sleeps and breathes the game. “I am excited to bring Ryan on board and know he will be a great asset to our staff, players and university community.”

Daly’s addition to the coaching staff brings his relationship with the Martelli family full circle. After beginning his college career at Delaware, Daly was recruited by Phil Martelli Sr. to St. Joe’s, but never played for the legendary head coach. In fact, Daly’s grandfather, Jim Boyle, was the St Joes head coach who hired Martelli Sr. Daly’s father, Brian, played at St Joe’s and coached at Boston U and Penn State. Now, Daly will join Martelli Jr.’s staff at Bryant as the Bulldogs look to win an America East Championship. Daly helped the Great Danes to five wins in two seasons. UAlbany fielded one of the league’s best offenses last winter, averaging 78.7 points per game and finishing with 7.8 three-pointers made per game.

As a player, Daly played two seasons at Delaware, earning CAA Rookie of the Year honors in 2016-17, becoming the fastest player in Delaware history to score 1,000 points. He then headed to St. Joe’s and became the fourth Hawk since 1947 to average more than 20 points in his career, finishing with 20.1 points per game. Daly ranked 21st nationally in scoring in 19-20 and led the Big 5 in scoring both seasons.
