Assistant coach Sahin has stepped up to become Dortmund’s new manager on a three-year contract.

Sahin won the Bundesliga title and the German Cup in 274 games as the club’s midfielder.

The German-born former Turkey international began training with Antalyaspor after retiring as a player, before returning to Dortmund as Terzic’s assistant this year.

Sahin called his appointment “a great honour”, while Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken praised the 35-year-old’s qualities, highlighting that they meant he was prepared for a high-pressure job.

“We are very happy to be able to hand over the responsibility of coaching to Nuri as a representative of the younger generation,” said Ricken, who played for the club alongside Sahin.

“In recent years he has been committed to preparing his career as a coach and will take on his new task with great dedication and develop our team. As former colleagues, we will work together confidently and ambitiously.

“Nuri knows the club, its squad and its DNA, both as a player and as assistant coach. We are convinced that Nuri is the right coach for us.”
